My WF 3620 suddenly shows an error code: 0x97. I turned the drive off, unplugged it, let it rest for 10 minutes, removed the cartridges then set them again, held down the power button for a minute, then turned on the printer. It continues to show the 0x97 error code.

I have the same exact printer and problem. I also ordered a cleaning kit. I just used it, the nozzle head print sheet came out good. Then I tested it with another document, black and white, but it gave me the error message again. I think time to go for a different printer and different brand. I just bought this 3 years ago :-(.

Same here, I am looking for another printer. I have the WF7620 and I get the error every other time I want to print a document. It is frustrating that you are in the middle of a task and you are ready to print and that error pops up. I purchased the printer about 3 years ago because of its capabilities of print wide format. I am stuck here pondering my next purchase…

Interesting how many are having this problem at the same time. I have run the head cleaning 5 times, just this morning spent $70 on new ink cartridges (who knows if that was necessary) and still getting the error message. Pretty frustrating!!! And the printer is rarely used.

Or just buy a new printer. Thanks for all the tips for making it work again. But with the price of printers these days, it’s much easier to replace than repair.

Unfortunately my wife needed a printer to work at home so after trying to clean the printer at least 4 times, bought a cleaning kit, we bought a new printer.
Between all new cartridges, a cleaner kit and a new printer we spent over $275.00. We’re not happy.

I am now having this issue on my wf-4630 printer. It is interesting how several people are having the same issue within the same month. Manufacturer defect?? This is irritating when I’ve tried EVERYTHING to fix it!!! And I barely used this printer!!!

I had the same error come up earlier this week. I have tried the options (apart from the Microsoft one ) for troubleshooting with no luck when connecting via the wireless connection. Just connected via a USB cable and the printer will print. It won’t photocopy or scan though..?
Very odd

Mine is doing the exact some thing! I’ve brought it home so I can print without going into the office and this happens, all new ink too! Tried everything. From reading the comments it’s like Epson sent out a message these models to fail! So frustrating.

Yes, the same thing has just happened today to me. Epson WF 3620 not printing and displaying Error Ox97. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting.
Still not working.
Haven’t pulled out the ink cartridges yet. Hesitate to do this as its such a trial replacing them. It takes ages to recognise them.

Who did you call at Epson? Is there something called a Maintenance Box? I saw somewhere as I am trying to investigate the same Error 0x97 problem, something about having also to replace a “Maintenance Box T6711” when it gets full of excess Ink. It said it’s supposed to collect excess ink when you do Print Head Cleaning and eventually gets full. I have tried all of the above methods, too, and am wondering if it’s the “Maintenance Box?” Now that I have read everybody’s having the same problem, perhaps I should just contact Epson. Where do you call? I… Read more »

I have a WF-3640 that I bought in 2017. About a month ago I started getting the 0x97 error code. I bought Epson brand ink, it worked for a little and the issue came back. I followed some of the suggestions here and got a cleaning kit and that didn’t fix it either. I called them and as soon as I mentioned the error code, the representative said “although your machine is out of warranty, due to the hardware issue code 0x97, we are going to replace it free of charge”. I just got my new printer and I am… Read more »

Do you know who you called? I am also having the same problem. I have loved this printer, the Workforce 3620, and used it a lot. This message just started yesterday and now I cannot do anything no copies, or printing off the computer. The message clears temporarily, then as soon as I attempt to copy or print, it starts to work, but makes a weird sound then spits out a blank sheet of paper and the Error 0x97 Message pops up. Your help would be greatly appreciated, especially if there is a “hardware” issue. My printer is also out… Read more »

Happy Monday, I love Epson printers! This Workforce WF-3620 has done everything I needed, up until recently. It stopped printing completely. The error code is 0x97. I am not new to technical issues, so I did my research and tried many things to fix it. I have followed numerous methods to reset the system; including the power cycle with pressing the power button, removing all cartridges, unplug all cables; everything. I love this machine, I don’t want to give up on it, but I am defeated. I only bought it about 3 years ago. Epson has served me much better… Read more »

1. Printer will not print/fax/copy/scan — continuous error message 0x97
2. An error message will not allow me to set up again in admin nor access window features or buttons.
3. I cannot download drivers nor register because my Epson password is no longer valid — NO PASSWORD RESET link!!
4. Will Epson send me a new one since I just learned that the WF-3640 is discontinued.
a) I’ve bought $160 worth of ink/toner cartridges–poor print–no matter the changes
b) No maintenance box error–only 0x97 which means?

Epson will send you a refurbished printer. You just have to send them your defective printer.
2 ways they will do it. The first option, You have to give them $125.00 and they will send you out a refurbished printer and when you send your printer to them and when they receive it they will refund your $125.00 or the second option, you can just send them your defective printer and when they receive it they will send you a refurbished printer.

I don’t think Epson error code 0x97 is fixable either. I had a similar error that shut down the printer completely. No scanner, no fax and nothing. Considering the situations when these error codes came up, I did not see any simple flush and reset that would work.
